fall break! October 22, 2008

i can hardly believe that it has been two weeks since i last posted! i was super busy in the last few weeks, studying for and then taking my final exams, mostly. after the exams were finished on (last) wednesday, i got to come home for a week and a half break. and here i am. it’s sad to think that i have to go back to school in only a few days. *sigh* but anyway!

.

.

first things first, i got to see the yarn harlot last week here in jacksonville. she was hilarous and my mom (a non-knitter) thought she was great, too. we also both won door prizes, so i got yummy new yarn. in the picture, i even got to hold her sock and she is wearing her gorgeous ‘hey, teach’. if you look on her most recent blog post, in the fourth picture down, far left, in the back, and then if you kind of squint, you can see us. i have no idea why anyone except me would want to do that, though. ^^

.

.

i finished up my contributions to kristi’s tessalating fish blanket. i used up a bunch of scraps and it was really a lot of fun. i have this feeling that these fishies are going to be smaller than most, but i can’t really help it that i’m a tight knitter, now can i? i can’t wait to see them as part of the blanket!

.

.

i have also been busy on the sewing machine. i found the cute box bag pattern here. as you can see, it is just large enough for a sock project. but don’t mention the sock project — it is not getting anywhere quickly. as a sidenote, if you are in my pay-it-forward group (you know who you are), your gifties should be ready soon. the placement of this comment may give you a hint about what your gift will be. perhaps.

instant gratification October 8, 2008

are you ever looking for some instant knitting gratification? the solution is to whip out size 35 needles. you can turn…

…into….

.

…in about two hours. i think the scarf is pretty cool, in a silly way. don’t get me wrong: it isn’t something i would ever wear and i don’t have anyone in mind to give it to, but i have no doubt that it will find a loving home one day soon. too bad the extra space in my yarn tub has already been refilled!

.

however, if you are looking for two-hour projects that take FOREVER, i have you covered there, too. take a look at these:

.

i absolutely love these collage notecards, but they sure took forever to make. indecisiveness and mistakes make everything take longer… but it was well worth it. i sent these off to my favorite card loving people, my mom and a close friend of hers. i can’t wait to make more. ^^

a home for my makeup brushes! October 3, 2008

if you haven’t been able to tell, i have caught the sewing bug big-time. i love how quickly i can make cute stuff. don’t worry, i still love my knitting… i can’t really sew in front of the television! ^^ anyway, i decided to make a case for traveling with my makeup brushes. i was using this little bag that i had to shove the brushes in and all it did was annoy me and mess up the tops of the brushes. problem solved!

.

.

i really like how this turned out and how useful it will be for traveling. i’m not going to lie — it isn’t my best work ever. the sport nylon (ripstop) was really hard to work with and made things slide around a lot more. however, it makes the case more durable and involves less cleaning. i added a few extra spaces in case i get more brushes (you just never know!).

apparently, it’s that time again where everyone circulates memes. i got tagged by deb, missy, and rhoda. to be honest, i’m just going to lump the two awards together (don’t kill me!). the first award asks for seven people and the second asks for four, so i’m going to aim for eleven.

.

Here are the rules:
1) Add the logo of the award to your blog.
2) Add a link to the person who awarded it to you (as shown above).
3) Nominate at least seven (four) other blogs.
4) Add links to those blogs on your blog.
5) Leave a message for your nominees on their blogs.

.

ok, so we have:

  1. hannah at bittersweet
  2. kelly at celtic cast on
  3. jeanne at jeanne knits
  4. denise at the knitting den
  5. vicki at KU crafter
  6. sophia at yarn over manhattan
  7. pam at pammie’s place
  8. kelli at knitter bunny

and of course:

  1. deb at hakucho
  2. missy at missy’s knitting mess
  3. rhoda at left-handed knitting

whew! that sure is a lot of great blogs and blogging friends. i hope everyone has a great weekend!
