Ren Knits ^^

time flies March 21, 2009

so, apparently it has been over a month since my last post. i’m not sure how to account for this, especially since i intended to post quite a few times. i spent the end of february finishing up my first module classes, the beginning of march relaxing during  spring break, and now i’m bogged down with schoolwork in my second module classes. i certainly didn’t think i would have to work this hard on my last few classes, but apparently my professors have other ideas about that. however, there are only six more weeks until i am officially graduated, so i certainly hope i can survive! ^^

these are my ampersand socks (rav). i was worried that i wouldn’t have enough yarn (because i used a 50g skein), so i did the heels and toes in the solid color. i REALLY needn’t have worried because i think i have almost a half skein of the variegated yarn left over. i don’t prefer knitting toe-up socks (i don’t like how the cast-off looks), but i might next time because i can’t stand having so much leftover yarn.

one of my cousins had a baby this week and this is the hat i sent her (rav). i love that she had a girl… it’s so much more fun to knit girly hats, in my opinion. ^^

.

i also just finished up another dishcloth. i have no idea why i love making dishcloths so much… i suppose it’s because they are so easy. i need to find more people to gift them to!! i’m working on a set of wrist warmers, too, so i hope that i’ll post again before too long.

back to school (again) January 9, 2009

this was my first week back to school… oh how i wish Christmas break lasted longer! things are insane around here because our gators just won the bcs championship. everyone is honking and screaming as they go by… what a commotion! it’s a good thing that i’m not trying to sleep yet!! : )

i just got the pictures from the kevat shawl (rav link) that i knit my mom for Christmas with lorna’s laces shepherd worsted. i think that this is one of my  favorite knits. i’ve never knit a lace shawl like that before. i know the pattern isn’t terribly complicated, but i think it looks really good! mom loved it and wears it to church because it is COLD in the pew we sit in. blocking it was crazy, too — that was another new experience!

.

lunchbox_before.

this is the lunchbox that i started out with for my dad. i got it free at the southern women’s show. i asked dad if he would want it and he said, “but it’s pink.” i asked, “well, if it wasn’t pink?” he replied, “but it is pink.” as though that couldn’t be changed?

.

lunchbox_after.

this is what i ended up with after i recovered the whole thing. the fabric has different travel destinations on it (like paris and  new york) and the pocket is globes. turns out that he really liked it once it was a different color. go figure!

.

anyway, i hope everyone has a great weekend! thanks so much for your concern about the surgery i had. i really appreciate that!

fall break! October 22, 2008

i can hardly believe that it has been two weeks since i last posted! i was super busy in the last few weeks, studying for and then taking my final exams, mostly. after the exams were finished on (last) wednesday, i got to come home for a week and a half break. and here i am. it’s sad to think that i have to go back to school in only a few days. *sigh* but anyway!

.

.

first things first, i got to see the yarn harlot last week here in jacksonville. she was hilarous and my mom (a non-knitter) thought she was great, too. we also both won door prizes, so i got yummy new yarn. in the picture, i even got to hold her sock and she is wearing her gorgeous ‘hey, teach’. if you look on her most recent blog post, in the fourth picture down, far left, in the back, and then if you kind of squint, you can see us. i have no idea why anyone except me would want to do that, though. ^^

.

.

i finished up my contributions to kristi’s tessalating fish blanket. i used up a bunch of scraps and it was really a lot of fun. i have this feeling that these fishies are going to be smaller than most, but i can’t really help it that i’m a tight knitter, now can i? i can’t wait to see them as part of the blanket!

.

.

i have also been busy on the sewing machine. i found the cute box bag pattern here. as you can see, it is just large enough for a sock project. but don’t mention the sock project — it is not getting anywhere quickly. as a sidenote, if you are in my pay-it-forward group (you know who you are), your gifties should be ready soon. the placement of this comment may give you a hint about what your gift will be. perhaps.

oh, fay! August 25, 2008

ah, the things that have happened since i posted two weeks ago. i had a relaxing last few weeks of summer. mom and i made plans to get back to campus last wednesday and visit my grandparents on the way, but we got held up by tropical storm fay. then we thought maybe we could go back on friday, but fay decided to slow down to about 6mph and stall us another day. she also knocked out our power for a full day and sent us bailing standing water out of our side yard to keep it from overflowing into our house. thank God the rain let up soon after that and the water did not harm our house or belongings. i made it back to campus on saturday, but we didn’t have the time to visit my grandparents. classes started today. *sigh*

.

.

this picture was taken from my window. it is our little cul-de-sac after the sewers overflowed. it’s pretty hard to tell how much water that is, but my neighbor is standing in at least ankle-deep water and the yards and driveways are underwater pretty far in. at least it is over now! ^^

.

in other, more knitting-related news, i finished off the elbow patches that hakucho suggested way back on sweater day. i used the elbow patches in domiknitrix as a jumping-off point and worked the patches from there. i am excited that i can wear my favorite sweater again!

.

.

i hope that everyone is having a great week and please keep missy and her family in your thoughts & prayers as they have just suffered another loss in their family.

tofublock

.

please note that this is only what you might call half true; my motivation has been seriously lacking. mostly i just wanted to show off the lovely tofu pincushion that i made into a photo holder. i think i defeated the purpose when i knit him out of wool, but i’m no vegetarian/vegan, so i suppose it’s ok.

hats, hats, hats! April 21, 2008

hi everybody! school has been absolutely insane the past few weeks… i am lucky when i know what day it is and what classes i am supposed to go to! we have all these groups and we have to meet and everyone has different class schedules and things just get really crazy. it will be over in a week, though! yaaaay.

.

what is the best thing to do when things get crazy and there is hardly enough time to eat and sleep? why, knit of course!

.

.

this is the random collection of hats i knit for sublynnminal healing. i used up a lot of stash yarns and i think they actually came out pretty well. i’m too lazy to post all the details and pictures on here (sorry!), so you’ll have to check my ravelry if you’re interested in any of them.

however, look at how fabulous this one is! i think the little flower really makes the hat. *grin*

busy. and wristwarmers. January 30, 2008

i feel as though i haven’t posted in months. i was relieved to find that it has actually been under two weeks. classes have been incredibly busy recently and i haven’t had time to do much of anything. i apologize if i owe any of you emails or comments… i’ve been trying to keep up, but i seem to be in a constant rush, whether to get to class or get projects done or get to bed at a reasonable hour or any number of other things. my wrist has been acting up more than ever before, which hasn’t helped matters much. things will slow down again eventually, i’m sure. i just have to hang in there until then. ^^

wristwarmers2.jpg

things on the knitting front have been pretty slow, as you might imagine. i managed to finish a pair of wristwarmers for mom, but that’s about all. she wanted a pair because she read that wearing pulse warmers to bed keeps your whole body much warmer. i don’t know whether or not that’s true (i forgot to ask if she tried them out), but i was happy to oblige. she picked out the yarn from my stash and described the design she wanted. i used this pattern and a skein of cascade pima tencel. i liked the yarn… it was really soft. ^^ also, i’m optimistic that i will have a finished pair of socks by the end of the weekend, but i’m not so sure they’ll be anything great. at least they’ll finally be off the needles! i’m anxious to move on to something else, but i don’t know what that will be yet.

also, i have been slowly messing around with ravelry. i got my entire stash up in one fell swoop the day after i signed up (two weeks ago! i can’t believe it was so long ago!), but i’ve been much slower about getting my projects on there. i did get the projects up that i had on my photobucket and livejournal, so i finally deleted most everything from those accounts. yay! i haven’t started my queue yet or added any favorites or posted in any forums or… haha, if only i had more time! ^^
